DC and Pittsburgh – what a drag
we would like to apologize for cancelling our show in dc last night. unfortunately it was a result of poor communication and could have been prevented. another tragic epidsode in the never ending soap opera that we call our “summer tour”. in an effort to make amends to any fans that went to the show we would like to put you on the guest list when we return to the dc area.
now let’s get to pittsburgh. this show was cancelled by the promoter – we have a pretty decent fan base in pittsburgh and are really really bummed out about this. not sure what else i can say except this sucks cos pittsburgh is one of our favorite cities.
show reports should be up next week – dont expect the candy coated version either – this tour hasnt been the summer vacation i thought it was going to be.
DC:
let me just start off by saying, my 2 friends and I went to All Good 07 and were blown away at WIG’s performance and energy. It was raining and we didn’t care because the band was on point.
So we got excited when we saw that would be playing in DC, just a 30-40 minute drive from Baltimore, very doable. Roll up to the doors to see a note saying WEST INDIAN GIRL HAS CANCELLED THEIR SHOW. Our mouths dropped as we couldnt believe this would happen. We talked to some of the guys from the opening band and they said something about stairs being an issue ?? Well, being the first time I had ever heard of this venue (the red and the black) we didn’t know what was going on, said f*ck it, lets just grab some drinks…
So randomly my buddy and I decided to get 2 shots of jack daniels to remember our All Good mountain experience….only to get back two of the most pitiful shots I have ever seen. Probably just about a teaspoon of Jack for 6 bucks ?!?! So with a smile on my face, I asked the bartender ‘Did yall run out of Jack or something?” She looks at me, looks at the shot, looks at me again and says something like ‘If you want to tend bar, get a job somewhere and be a bartender”…slams a glass down on the bar, and walks away.
STUNNED by this (my sister is a bartender and my friend has bartended many times), we sit down and think WTF JUST HAPPENED. my friend attempted to tell her that I was just joking around, she proclaimed “it wasnt funny.” So after that, she slammed down my tab/check right in front of me….lets just say she didnt get a tip that night except for LEARN HOW TO POUR A SHOT, written on the receipt.
So moral of the story….we realized that possibly you were not at fault, and maybe this club had some assholes in it, and eventually didnt blame WIG for not playing.
So in the future, i would recommend coming to BALTIMORE to play some shows. We have the Recher Theatre in Towson that has National acts pass through every week. I am also starting an internship at the 8×10 in Federal Hill, Baltimore in the fall. We have an intimate setting with a small stage but always a heartfelt crowd, and big acts have played there in the past and have BLOWN UP afterwards (the bridge, benevento/russo duo, grace potter and the nocturnals…).
And also, PROMOTION PROMOTION PROMOTION. It might just me, but I had never heard of WIG until All Good, and wish I had heard about yall earlier. So if you ever need any type of Street Team for the DC/Maryland/VA area, let a brother know 🙂

COME BACK AND PLAY SOON, JUST NOT AT THE RED AND THE BLACK !!!!!!
Ugh, Pittsburgh.
This is why the live music scene went from being on the national map in the late ’90s to the now non-existant wasteland. Who are these people running the show? It’s not rocket science for God’s sake!
I guess that’s the result of never stepping out of the box and trying something new… well, and the fact they’re a bunch of yinzer’s that have never left this city!! They’re unable to even formulate a creative thought, let alone follow through with anything (or even follow up on something!).
The club owners don’t help any, either… Marketing, what? Publicity, what? That might take one of the golden pennies out of their pockets… They can’t figure out why their clubs are only open for a year and they never come out of the red. The first thing that goes, the live music – replaced by mediocre DJs and Karaoke.
When I talked to Kirk from MP he said something about pre-sale tickets… what? There were pre-sale tickets? I didn’t even know this show was going on until I talked to Mark at All Good the week before (which, BTW, was a great show)! My case and point…
Anyone want to give me some tips on being a promoter???? I could do this shit in my sleep!
Thanks, guys, for trying to come to Pittsburgh. I’m looking forward to seeing you back here soon!!
Sorry for the rant….
You guys are awesome, original, brilliant, etc.
And those girls are GORGEOUS!
Thank you, I haven’t been inspired this much by new music in a long, long time..
Peace,
Colie
