listen up all ye faithful west indian girl fans…more specifically fran’s blog followers. i have moved my blog over to it’s own home. don’t worry about west indian girl news, if anything newsworthy happens with the band i will for sure be blogging about it. that’s a promise. the new home for fran’s blog is francisten.com. see you over there. i’m still working out the bugs with the help of 2 of my most uber brainiest friends so bear with me in beta testing mode.
yup, i’ve been laggin for sure but i’ve decided to get back to blogging except im pretty sure im gonna move my blog over to another site just because there hasnt been much going on with the band these days as we are in a writing phase for the next few months with no shows on the books. i think my own site might be a more appropriate place for this stuff considering the semi hiatus the band is on.
another 2 with ten is on the way very soon as well. anyway, that’s life these days. just been busy with life which is pretty much why i havent been around these days. work + life’s distractions = minimal blogging.
oh, i was at party with the most interesting man in the world yesterday. the party was actually pretty interesting. it was for mutineer mag. it was for their 2nd annual red carpet tasting. it was a great event…i mean how can u complain about tons of free booze. i took dylan with me and we met my other biz partner heidi richman there. mutineer did an interview with me at a wine tasting event at the london last month which i will post when it’s out. i like those guys.
here’s a link to the hungover radio show that i was a guest on in april. it was fun but took me a while to wake up as i was indeed nursing a hangover… quite apropos. i want a radio show.
well, from the looks of it my cover girl days arent over just yet 😉 thanx to all the wonderful people over at howe for deeming me “special” enough to grace the front of their spring 2010 lookbook. we did that shoot this past july and it was a ton of fun. i’m glad i made the cut. love you guys so much and i hope we keep working together.
watch this interview – it was done in the dressing room before our show at bottom of the hill in sf. as u can see my fellow ant drummer – jesper is standing to my right. he’s the strong silent type. we have a running joke about ants because i take an ant supplement called super ant….it’s basically ground up changbai black mountain ants. anyway, jesper now calls me frant. fyi this ant is the richest source of zinc from a plant or animal on earth. chew on that fact.
thanx to halloran and everyone else at fm 94.9 for having me on the station this past sunday. appreciate it. especially james and kate for making sure everything went well.
hey everyone I’m gonna be on fm 94.9 in san diego again this sunday night at 6pm – listen up if u can – I will post the show afterwards. i see maynard was on a couple weeks ago – weird…i initially had one of the songs he actually played, on my list, but i swapped it out for a better one. im sure i will explain that on the air. look for another iwnbts name discussion too 😉
looks like im going to indie 103.1 tonight with josh to be on dave navarro’s dark matter show. i will report back. i think u can listen live online at indie1031.com. 10:30 is when it starts.
UPDATE: so, that was fucking fun – the interview went great. before we went over to the station josh and i had a few beverages at my local bar (el carmen). i have posted the show below. thanx to marcy liu for sending it to me. i gotta tell ya, dave navarro and his little crew were cool. you know how i love to call people out but i can’t in this case. dave was dope and has a real quick wit. i liked him even though people say i look like him – but i still get the prince thing all the time. it never ends – i even got it tonight from the lady behind the counter at cvs. i also get the occasional cornell thrown in there…which still blows my mind. then again, people say i look like my dog more than cornell so im not sure what to think anymore. im going with tony cos i love him. enjoy the show
oh yeah – speaking of radio interviews…i just got confirmed with halloran on 94.9 in san diego for another coup d’etat on nov 15th. awesome!
Bits of press and interviews are finally trickling in from the summer festivals … Outside Lands was probably one of the most professionally organized festivals we’ve ever played, and rocking Street Scene’s Casbah stage at sunset was by far the most enjoyable 45 minutes of the weekend.
A deep and special thanks goes out to our guest drummer extraordinaire Brendan Buckley & the marvelous and ethereal Miranda Lee Richards. It was an honor to play by their side and absorb all that professionalism and phenomenal energy.
Check out our feature on LA2Day’s online coverage of Outside Lands (thank you Chrissy!) and USD Radio’s interview with the chicas (thanks Nick!).
SPIN EXAMINER
Thanks to all for coming out, supporting and sharing in the love of music.
below is an mp3 of my interview with halloran on 94.9. let me tell you something….i have done a ton of interviews but this guy ranks up there as arguably the best interviewer i have sat across from. his database of musical knowledge is astounding —he fills in the blanks, educates and keeps the flow going like no other. listen at your own risk…it’s an hour long. here is my playlist for the hour.
now on to the real important stuff. of all the people i plugged during the interview i somehow forgot the most important one and he was sitting right fucking next to me. wanni, buddy, this THANK YOU! goes out to you. wanni helped set this whole thing up and made sure i was there on time. he, despite my fears of bikes, picked me up from a bar on the beach and then drove me back on a 2008 BMW R1200 RT. gotta tell you…it was great, that bike rides like a dream. now i want to get a bike with a sidecar for tony. in the pic below wanni is on left and halloran is in middle.
special thanks to karl wente for including us in his “discover the wine discover the music” series. i was quite impressed with his explanation for pairing our song “beach” with a riesling— this was pretty cool and interesting. i love shit like this. thanx karl and of course heidi richman. you can buy this wine at whole foods 😉 here’s a nice forbe’s video clip about this program.
We are excited to announce that West Indian Girl’s set at the Outside Lands festival on Friday, August 28th will be featured as part of the first ever festival webcast on YouTube. The performance will be streamed live at 5:05pm pacific along with a bunch of other great artists. Following the show you’ll be able to check out archived videos from the festival as well.
the trip to sf should be cool. nice to read stuff like this – best of from the sf examiner – and this –must hear from spin mag–
see you all there nice and early. we play at 1 not 1:30. we will be doing press in the press area starting around 3 so if u need to find any of us us look for us there. oh yeah, and a side note to all the press in sf…i’ve recently proposed to my dog tony. hence forth i would only like to be referred to as tony’s fiancee in all articles/interviews/press etc etc. please attach that to my name either before or after Francis Ten. I think i prefer it before. Tony’s Fiancee (Francis Ten).
this month’s issue of front mag – a british men’s mag features mariqueen as one of  their top 5 female entertainers. not just top 5…she’s numero uno!!!! congrats q and thanx front!
here is some behind-the-scenes footage i compiled whilst writing and recording our 3rd LP. the audio i included here is from a live jam session recorded on 2 tracks, unmixed, and unmastered. the track will most likely change, but at least you all get to witness the birth of one of my faves, springer.
despite temporarily getting stuck in the freight elevator, we had a very zen photoshoot the other night as we sipped on wine and chilled in the hallways of our rehearsal space. the talented charles kang captured some rad photos of the band as did our good friend marcos beltran who caught the raw behind-the-scenes yummyness. the aesthetic eye of daven was also much much appreciated. thank you all. the shoot was super fun and quite the bonding experience. here’s a teaser i compiled to show for it with music from a track called Beach available via Origami.
Records on July 7th: while going through this footage, i came across some mysterious waves of light…see if you can catch a glimpse of our 4th & wall entity…enjoy…
check it out..free downlowds. this is a remix by LIME of a song called “solar eyes” off our latest double remix cd 4th on the floor. the 2nd mix is from one of my fav bands from nyc – cruelblackdove. this track will be available digitally on our upcoming origami records release in a month or so. both tracks sound nothing like the original versions but that’s why we release remixes of all our songs – to create and collaborate with other artists for a final result that usually surprises all of us in the best possible way. hope you enjoy. it’s only good quality – not great but wtf…it’s free so right click it.

spent several hours last night falling into a hot lusty romance with Final Cut Pro. any free time i had is now currently zapped, but as Clark Gable so heartbreakingly put, “frankly my dear, i don’t give a damn.” the time is ripe.
here’s the last iMovie you’ll see from moi. merci a tous!
the nynex mix is pretty damn rad and now u can have it for free. click on the pic below and turn to page 14 people.

seriously, play la crew – i have a spare room over here that you guys can move into. thanx for the love again.
