markus – good point on wolfmother. i enjoy talking to experts on bands and you definitely know way more than i do about fnm. personally i have a problem mentally playing anything i dont like…i guess it’s just a different approach right. soundgarden was pretty cool when they started out.
You generally only cover songs you like ……sampling a snippet of a clearly horrible song is another story. You gotta respect any band that can make a lady gaga song sound good!
FNM’s tradition over the years is to sample a bit of a bad pop song during the intro of CHINESE ARITHMETIC.
Ha. Fair enough.
Pearl Jam’s not even the 3rd best band to come out of Seattle!
Agreed -Led Zeppelin were well dressed (though not over-dressed) AND supremely talented……and that was 35+ years ago. Conversely, Wolfmother are WAY over-dressed (too cohesive?) and possess a fraction of the talent (didn’t they win a grammy?). Point being, the last ten years of music have given us plenty of cohesive LOOKING, well dressed, stylized bands with minimal talent. This is why all the 90’s bands are reuniting! (soundgarden most recently).
In FNM’s case, I think it’s a testament to their talent that they were able to find success while still lacking a cohesive look. FNM’s cover of Easy & Glorybox (Portishead) are definitely not mocking……..as for 911 is a joke, NKOTB’s The Right Stuff, and Madonna’s Vogue – that’s another story. The pokerface 40 second “throw away” sample was a clear mock.
Anyway, good luck with the new album. Hoping to hear some heavier sounds and a bit more of Amy on vox!
ok so markus i just watched that link…the irony of this…they seem pretty well dressed at their show. also…i like their covers more than their originals…reunited was good. i dont think bands can really play covers if they dont like or at least secretly like the song
heavy metal, funk, hip-hop, and progressive rock might be more like it but alt rock icons i would disagree. then again i guess it depends on what rock religion you believe in. i dont like pearl jam and they’re alt rock icons right? i did watch a bunch of live stuff before i vlogged and i actually thought their covers (ie easy and 911 is a joke) were one of their collective strong points. were they intended to be mocking? style…always a touchy subject and very subjective. i would argue that the beatles and zeppelin were well dressed…maybe cohesive would have been a better word to use. certainly more so than fnm though. i think i should have said they lacked a cohesive look. then again someone from the ozarks might actually think fnm is one of the most cohesive best dressed band around. thanx for the link and comment…im glad you watched the video cos those take time to make.
Faith No More was “a branch of sort of metal glam” LMAO! Really? …..try Alternative Rock Icons.
Worst dressed (you must have watched the “Epic” video from 1989) before vlogging.
I think the last 10 years of music have shown us that the best dressed bands are often the least talented.

And yes, FNM are back and apparently still kicking ass (while mocking terrible artists).
